iCloud Mail deliverability

Follow Apple’s sender guidance and prepare evidence for an iCloud delivery issue.

Scope and requirements

Apple’s postmaster guidance covers iCloud Mail addresses, including icloud.com, me.com and mac.com. It calls for opted-in recipients, prompt unsubscribe handling, stable sending identities, reverse DNS and SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Purchased or rented lists do not satisfy its consent guidance.

Handle the actual SMTP result

Preserve Apple’s complete SMTP response. Allow configured retries for temporary failures and investigate permanent failures by their stated cause. Apple does not offer a bulk-sender allow list or a feedback loop, so do not promise either as a remediation step.

Review the sending route

  1. Identify the connecting IP, reverse and forward DNS and authenticated domains for the affected stream.
  2. Check that unsubscribes and invalid recipients remain suppressed across every connected sending system.
  3. Compare marketing and transactional traffic separately. Review unexpected changes to audience, frequency or infrastructure.
  4. If the issue persists after following Apple’s guidance, assemble the domain, sending IPs, full error text and the date the issue began. Apple lists icloudadmin@apple.com as its escalation contact.

Keep delivery and measurement separate

Apple Mail is a client that can display mail from many providers. Mail Privacy Protection changes what remote-content requests tell you about reading; it is not an iCloud SMTP error category. Continue with Apple Mail Privacy Protection when the issue is open reporting.
