How to check SPF, DKIM and DMARC for Yahoo
Verify the authentication identities Yahoo evaluates on real messages and check the additional requirements that apply to bulk senders.
Check a real message from each sending system
Do not verify authentication from DNS alone. Send a fresh message from the real workflow and record the visible From domain, Return-Path domain, DKIM d= domain and the SPF, DKIM and DMARC results.
A test from Google Workspace does not prove that your newsletter, CRM or application sender uses the same identities.
Apply the correct Yahoo requirement
For all senders, Yahoo requires SPF or DKIM at minimum. Bulk senders must implement both SPF and DKIM and publish a valid DMARC policy with at least p=none. DMARC must pass.
Yahoo accepts relaxed DMARC alignment. The visible From domain needs to align with either the SPF-authenticated domain or a passing DKIM signing domain.
Check DKIM key strength and signatures
Yahoo requires DKIM keys of at least 1024 bits and recommends 2048-bit keys when possible. If a message has several DKIM signatures, Yahoo evaluates all of them when determining alignment, reputation and CFL eligibility.
Yahoo’s FAQ warns that if several DMARC-aligned DKIM signatures exist and they do not all pass, Yahoo does not guarantee that the message will pass DMARC. Remove obsolete or broken aligned signatures rather than assuming one good signature will always override the rest.
Verify DNS and the route together
Yahoo also requires valid forward and reverse DNS for sending IPs. Authentication and rDNS solve different checks, so inspect both when a new IP or sending route is introduced.
After changing DNS or ESP settings, verify a newly delivered message. Keep the before-and-after identities in your change record so the next investigation can establish what actually moved.
