A chart becomes useful when you can connect it to a decision. Start every review by recording the domain, date range and email stream you are investigating.

Keep your sending calendar beside the dashboard. A campaign pause, an audience expansion or a platform change can explain a movement that otherwise looks mysterious.

Begin with compliance

Compliance status shows whether Gmail's sender requirements are being met. Read the explanation for any Needs work result and review Deliverability analysis for Google's diagnostic recommendations.

The compliance view rolls subdomain traffic into the primary domain. Other dashboards can have a different scope. Confirm the selected domain and view before comparing two figures.

Understand what each view measures

Spam rate covers user reports on eligible DKIM-authenticated mail delivered to engaged recipients' inboxes. It does not count every message that Gmail automatically filters to spam.

Feedback Loop groups complaint information by the identifiers in your Feedback-ID headers. Use it to investigate a campaign or message type when enough data is available.

Authentication reports SPF, DKIM and DMARC results. The methods can have different eligible message sets. Investigate unexpected changes using real message headers from the affected sender rather than expecting every line to match.

Encryption shows encrypted mail transport. For your outbound delivery, check the traffic sent from your domain to Gmail and the provider responsible for that connection.

Delivery errors cover authenticated mail that was rejected or temporarily failed. They do not tell you where accepted messages were placed. Compare the results with complete SMTP responses in your ESP logs.

Allow for reporting limits

Postmaster Tools uses UTC. Data generally updates within 24 hours but can take longer. Low volumes can leave gaps to protect recipient privacy. Missing data is not a zero result.

Compare complete reporting days and keep the same view when looking for a trend. If your ESP uses a different timezone, align the records before assigning a spike to a campaign.

Account for the interface change

Domain and IP Reputation are legacy dashboards that are absent from v2 and planned for retirement. Google's notice says retirement of the old interface has been postponed. Do not assume those ratings exist in a current v2 account or that the old interface has already disappeared everywhere.

For a practical review, write down the signal, the related send or change, and the next check. A chart that improves without an explanation deserves another look before you resume a broader audience.
